Occupational therapy helps people of all ages to do the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of daily activities (occupations). Whether it is assisting patients with an injury, illness, or disability, occupational therapists are helping people fully engage in daily life. A personalized treatment plan will then be designed specifically for you and your recovery.
At the Wellness Center, Mitchell is our Occupational Therapist and works with patients of all ages and abilities. He assists his patients in independence through meaningful daily activities.
Occupational therapy provides a top-down approach which means we look at the person as a whole, not just a singular disease, ailment, or disorder. We operate by taking a strong focus on the meaningful activities in your daily life. These activates consist of skills closest to you such as dressing, bathing, toileting, and grooming/hygiene. Occupational therapy also puts an emphasis on the ability to adapt and learn new strategies and techniques to complete daily activities.
Therapeutic activities range from typical household chores to leisure activities and everything in between. If a task in one of these categories is meaningful to you and you are having difficulty getting it done, occupational therapy can work with you to problem solve ways to complete these tasks.
Many times, patients with deconditioning or orthopedic conditions benefit from therapeutic exercise to promote an increase in range of motion, strength, and endurance. In turn, completing therapeutic exercise can lead to an increase in completing your daily activities with more energy. This can lead to a more enjoyable life experience.
